Adjunct Research Associate in History at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. She combines this with her private practice as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. She is a member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, a constituent of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists Association of Australasia. She is a Member of the Australian Association of Group Psychotherapists and a previous editor of the Australasian Journal of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Since 2011 she has been researching the history of psychoanalysis in Australia, recording some of this on her blog, ‘Freud in Oceania’. A fortuitous meeting with the Geroe family, descendants of Dr Klára Lázár Geroe, led to the discovery of extensive archives detailing her early life and Hungarian career as a psychoanalyst in the Budapest School, her emigration to Australia at the age of forty in 1940, and her activities in Melbourne, including her involvement in the establishment of psychoanalytic training in Australia until her death in 1980. Klára Lázár Geroe was the first training analyst in Australia recognized by the British Psychoanalytical Society and the International Psychoanalytical Association. Christine Brett Vickers is currently engaged in writing a biography of Klára Geroe for Routledge.
