After an introduction about instincts as motives for behavior, the author discusses the repression of instinctual impulses in the service of the superego. He is of the opinion that in the last analysis the Oedipus complex is the basis of every crime. Finally, he enters a plea for the abolishment of the principle of 'responsibility' and for the treatment of criminals by psychiatrists, endocrinologists and psychoanalysts.
