Abstract

This is an ethnographic study containing some data of interest to the psychoanalyst. The author concludes that 'the hypothesis that every small group defines an independent and unique groupordered culture has been supported' (p. 77). This is undoubtedly true. The psychoanalyst observes this in his everyday practice. The author is also probably correct in stating that many anthropologists generalize too much from their work with small groups in describing larger group-ordered cultures.
