The migraine resulted from 'endogenous reactivation of a deep masochistic attitude'. The patients had negative Oedipus complexes. The relationship with
the parental imago of the same sex was felt as sado-masochistic. Behind an apparently pleasant and erotic situation lay hidden a masochistic gratification uncovered by analysis.
