Ganser in 1898 described a hysterical twilight state with paralogia. Most cases reported since have occurred in prisons. Weiner and Braiman here present cases of Ganser's syndrome occurring during the course of other diseases. They believe that such patients are psychotic, and that the syndrome is a reaction to intolerable stress with feelings of utter helplessness. By amnesia with loss of
personal identity and paralogia the patient indicates he cannot be held responsible for his actions.
