Indications for placing patients in groups depend on the accessibility of the patient's problems and the effect of these problems on other members of the group. Slavson categorizes diagnoses and syndromes (including almost all psychopathology) according to their response or lack of response to group psychotherapy. The clinical appearance of a case is of more prognostic value than its theoretical structure. This is true for children as well as adults, and in activity as well as in interpretative groups.
