A patient's regressive reaction to interpretation of a dream raised the technical problem of persistently interpreting not only the evidences of regression but also
at the same time the defensive purpose of the regression. No matter how deep such regression, elements of the Oedipus complex are recognizable in it. Persistent interpretation of the defensive nature of the regression will finally result in the giving up of this pathological defense.
