Abstract

The analysis of a 'gentleman' revealed this character structure to be the patient's attempt to deal with Oedipal feelings and castration anxiety. The patient's

ambition was derived from fixation to his mother (rather than arising chiefly from urethral eroticism) and was associated with introjection, in toto, of his mother's chief ego ideal.
