The authors describe the case of a male transvestite who, with his wife's consent, was emasculated at age forty-three. On the basis of a descriptive case history and some dream material, the authors suggest that the patient's deepest wish was 'to bear a child through the act of self-impregnation, thus narcissistically fulfilling the bisexual goal'. They speculate that in such cases emasculation may be a defense against murder of the mother figure or surrogates.
