The author calls attention to a rare type of patient described by Main in the British Journal of Medical Psychology. Such a patient has an uncanny ability to evoke extraordinary sympathy and intervention from hospital personnel, even upon slight acquaintance. The reaction of a psychiatric nurse to a patient of this type is reported by Bourne. He finds that these patients are able to stimulate infantile sexual impulses in others, especially incestuous ones, and feels that this ability stems from actual unusual incestuous experiences in childhood.
