The concept of 'world mental health' is raised in this short note to indicate the
need for mutually respectful and considerate relationships between nations in the face of possible universal destruction. At certain times in history the course of events is much influenced by actions of national leaders and as such is at the mercy of their mental ill-health.
Individuals in society still strive for satisfaction in work, a gratifying sexual life, and good personal relationships, neither conforming to environmental uniformity nor rebelling against an acceptance of life. It is a moot question whether man can feel free from apprehension in the midst of present world affairs but the elimination of the unconscious, irrational sources of his discontent can go a long way toward providing the fearlessness of normality.
