The authors present clinical and theoretical material concerning the spatiotemporal parameters in adolescence. The paper stresses a particular type of object relations in very disturbed adolescents, in which an attempt is made to differentiate the self from the mother-object spatially by physical attack; this then becomes the basis of the fusion-defusion strivings of these youngsters. The similarity of this spatial parameter to that in schizophrenia is discussed.
