In relation to termination of analysis, it is not so much the question of whether all the memories have been recovered, the infantile amnesia completely lifted, or the id energy integrated into the ego. Rather it is obtaining through analysis different forms of the Oedipus complex and its fantasies. The goal is to minimize the energy waste in the conflict between the libido and death instincts.
