Acting out is a metapsychological model of actions that lets the analyst see what is hidden. What is shown is an alloplastic operation, material or symbolic, effective or ineffective, impulsive or meditative. What is hidden is an unconscious wish, a fantasy, or an anamnesic structure. 'True action is every action making the objective and rational relations that exist between the agent and the action; i.e., between the one who acts and the goals, the objects, the means of his action.'
