A patient, suffering from a psychotic character disorder, began to lactate in response to a premature attempt to terminate her psychotherapy. Treatment continued for several years thereafter and gave ample opportunity to study an unusual psychophysiologic reaction. Although many other factors were involved, the most important conflict in the galactorrhea centered around an intense oral reaction to possibly losing a feared, loved and hated mother-therapist. This contrasts with the only similar case reported, by Briehl and Kulka, which mainly involved phallic conflicts. However, the nature of the oral regression is strikingly alike in both cases.
