In this interesting contribution the author describes ulcer patients who exhibit genital hyperactivity from which they derive little real satisfaction. Garma feels that there is no single, simple character type in ulcer patients and disagrees with Alexander's postulate of frustrated oral dependency. If one is to explain such sexual behavior in the ulcer patient, one must take into consideration not only the oral wishes but the Oedipus complex and the superego. A frequent finding of Garma's is an internalized phallic persecutory mother image.
