The treatment alliance is essentially a "surface phenomenon" that is sometimes given excessive weight. The analysis of an adolescent boy, conducted at the Hampstead Clinic, is presented in considerable detail with the interesting inclusion of Anna Freud's contributions at the ongoing case conferences about this patient.
