This retrospective study demonstrates a statistically significant association between childhood genitourinary surgery and emotional disturbance, but demonstrates no such relationship between childhood ENT surgery and emotional disturbance. Further, the data reveal a significant association between children seen for psychiatric evaluation and genitourinary surgery but again fail to demonstrate a relationship to prior ENT surgery. The interpretation of these results remains one of association and not causality.
