The group organized around Klaus Holzkamp has developed a theoretical-therapeutic conception of "critical psychology." This involves overextending the categorical framework of Marx's critique of political economy so as to derive insights for a science of subjectivity. In this effort the relevance of the life-historical dimension, which is decisive in psychoanalysis, is systematically rejected in favor of the influence of social factors. Pathology is conceptualized as a deficient capacity for insight into social conditions and into the possibilities of the praxis of change.
