Dorpat describes three patients who had accidents repeatedly because "for them, omnipotence and invulnerability resided in the idealized self object." Assuming the author's dynamic analysis of the production of these accidents is correct, several aspects of his approach might nevertheless be questioned. For instance, he differentiates these "accidents" from action; also, he describes these "accidents" as though they are unrelated to psychic factors. The usefulness of the article lies in its reminding us that the psychodynamics of repeated accidents is often overlooked.
