Two case reports are presented which illustrate the multiple determinants and screening function of conscious primal scene fantasies present before analysis. In contrast to the clinical dictum that such fantasies indicate severe pathology and guarded prognosis, these patients both had a successful analytic course. They did not demonstrate unusual disturbances of ego and superego function.
