Cournut discusses what he calls the fantasy of the infinite female orgasm. The male, proud of provoking this response, is nonetheless like the sorcerer's apprentice, overwhelmed by what has been provoked. Cournut refers to some literary examples in which curiosity and mystery surround the female orgasm and the fantasy that it is infinite. Underlying this is often a fear of castration and of loss of control, especially of sphincter control. To understand this fantasy he sketches a metapsychological explanation of the events at orgasm.
