This interesting paper, enriched with several clinical examples, dovetails nicely with the earlier paper by Peter Blos. The author examines the resurgence of preoedipal ties to the mother in girls whose mothers were unable to meet their dependency needs when they were infants. It is suggested that "a girl in early adolescence feels empty and depressed if her preoedipal love object was ambivalent about her and if her dependency needs were unmet." Case histories are presented of a few girls who dealt with conflicts of this type through delinquent actions. Some suggestions are made about the therapeutic approaches to various types of delinquent girls and their mothers.
