This is the kind of necessary and useful paper that should be read by all who care about the successful operation of the educational programs within our psychoanalytic institutes and who are concerned about the further development and training of the psychoanalytic faculty. The authors first describe the operations of the selection committee at the Denver Psychoanalytic Institute, with specific attention to the evolution of the committee's decision-making process and to its own program of education and training for new committee members. In the second section of the paper, the authors discuss in some detail the qualities they believe necessary in candidates for the committee. Finally, the authors give three examples of the selection process. In each of these the clinical data of the interviews is presented, the analytic thinking of the selector as he listened and processed the material is discussed, and the selection committee's discussion and recommendation is described.
