This brief case presentation demonstrates the use of "auto-analysis" as a narcissistic resistance against being analyzed. The patient had written a 116-page monograph, an analysis of his own case, and had consulted the author for "post-analytic assistance." This "auto-analysis" served as a narcissistic resistance
which allowed the patient to preserve his infantile grandiosity and also to "feel superior to his analyst and thereby obtain revenge on his parents."
