Certain forms of sexual activity raise questions as to whether they represent a disruption of psychological development. Defined as abnormal are fetishism, transvestism, perversions, and homosexuality. The function of adolescence is the establishment of sexual identity, the integration of body image, and the restoration of the oedipal parents—i.e., the setting of old issues with them. The author differentiates choice of sexual activity from unconscious driven choice, and he discusses the analyst's obligation to question, understand, and possibly change the choice.
