Weinstein responds to several articles in this issue criticizing his book History and Theory After the Fall. Of particular interest to psychoanalytic readers is his response to Richard L. Schoenwald's essay, "Getting On With It," regarding the evolution of psychoanalysis over the years. Weinstein cites Robert Wallerstein and Joseph Sandler, agreeing that there is no warrant for any assertion in psychoanalysis beyond assertions about the clinical data of the consulting room. Psychoanalysis has ended up in a proliferation of points of view, according to Weinstein, because of the flight into theory that departs from closeness to clinical experience.
