The Psychoanalytic Quarterly is pleased to welcome Neal Vorus as Editor-in-Chief, effective February 1, 2025.
Dr. Vorus comes to us from Psychoanalytic Psychology, where he has served as Book Review Editor since 2017. A Training and Supervising Analyst at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, he was their Chair of Faculty and Curriculum from 2006-2016 and again from 2022 to the present. He has been a reviewer and Editorial Board member of several journals, including the Quarterly. He maintains a private practice in New York City.
Dr. Vorus has published widely on a range of clinical and theoretical issues. He is particularly interested in both the importance of our theories and the limits of their ability to capture the nuances and the complexity of clinical work. In his words, he believes that “the vitality of our efforts to conceptualize the nature of clinical process mostly lives in the interstitial areas where conflicting, at times contradictory theories meet, as well as in those mysterious gaps and aporias one finds in some of our field’s foundational theoretical texts.” It is his goal to continue and develop the Quarterly’s role in exploring these themes, and to give voice to “ideas and perspectives that emerge from the cross-fertilization of diverse theoretical and geographical perspectives.”
