The Primitive Edge of Experience is a puzzling work. Despite the indication of a unified theme, Ogden's latest book is actually more like a collection of writings on psychoanalytic theory and practice rather than a linear narrative leading to a satisfactory resolution. This is indeed regrettable because much of what Ogden has to say, particularly regarding his central tenet of primitive experience, is intellectually challenging, sensitively presented, and of extreme theoretical importance.
