A volume devoted to the application of psychoanalytic principles to cultural themes is always welcome. Fisher lectures in psychiatry and education at the University of California at Los Angeles; he is also an associate faculty member at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute and a practicing research analyst. His formal training is in European cultural history, and he lived and studied in France for a number of years. He brought to his task a considerable background and depth of cultural awareness.
