There has been an upsurge of interest in “Art Brut,” raw art produced by persons outside the mainstream, unschooled “primitives,” children, the autistic or insane. Indeed, an entire edition of Revista Argentina de Arte y Psicoanálisis was devoted to the subject in 1991. Now a landmark book about Adolf Wölfli, a psychotic Swiss artist, has been made available in English. Originally published in German in 1921 and translated into French in 1964, it has now been translated from the French into an English edition that includes 24 color reproductions of Wölfli's art together with his brief life story in his own words.
