PSYCHOANALYSIS INTERNATIONAL A Guide to Psychoanalysis Throughout the World. Volume 2 America, Asia, Australia, Further European Countries edited by Peter Kutter Stuttgart: Frommann-Holzboog, 1995, xii + 378 pp., 98 DM
This long awaited second volume covers the Americas (North and South), Asia, Australia, plus countries in Europe omitted in Volume 1 (see Psychoanalytic Books, 5, 441). The chapters are all well written and highly informative and list journals and institutes. These two volumes are a valuable resource and should be in every institute library.
An Editor's Note referring to Bosnia-Herzegovina reveals the following:
It is known that the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Radovan Karadzic is originally a psychiatrist, who worked at the Psychiatric Clinic in Sarajevo. He joined the Diploma course in group analysis which was organized by IGA London and IGA Zagreb and left the course before the beginning of the war. He was, as all other candidates, an associate member of the London Group Analytic Society. When his activities became known, he was dismissed from the Society. (p. 359)
PSYCHOANALYTIC PIONEERS edited by Franz Alexander, Samuel Eisenstein, and Martin Grotjahn New Brunswick, NJ: Transaction, 1995, xxxi + 616 pp., $29.95 paper (Original work published 1966)
With a timely introduction by Samuel Eisenstein, this anthology of biographies of the early workers in psychoanalysis is now back in print. The pity is that there never was a second volume to chronicle those omitted, as well as another generation of pioneers.
