This edited collection of papers derives from a group formed by Division 39 of the American Psychological Association to study precocious ego development. The various contributors to the book were consultants, reviewers, or participants in that study group led by the editors. The editors are quick to point out that this is not a book about intellectually gifted individuals but about those who have developed an unusually intimate relationship with their own mental functioning such that the mind becomes their primary
