“There must be a movie in this book!” Writer-Director Susan Streitfeld observed after reading Louise J. Kaplan's Female Perversions: The Temptations of Emma Bovary (reviewed in Psychoanalytic Books, 4, 363-367). Kaplan's incisive observations about women are incorporated into a dramatization about a beautiful, high-powered public prosecutor who is under consideration for a court judgeship. The film explores the Faustian bargains she has made to have this perfect life and the unraveling of her psyche so that she is forced to confront her hidden demons. Visually compelling.
