Contemporary theoretical interest in the intersections of politics and religion led to the redefinition of the category of the messianic as an inherent category of human subjectivity. In my paper, however, I argue that through a re-examination of Freud's work on the concept of frustration, we can conclude that psychoanalysis falls within the register of the prophetic rather than that of the messianic. The prophetic emerges here as the injunction to realize the community in the living present in accordance with the law that instituted the community in the first place.
