I address a series of criticisms that Kevin Lu has raised about the cultural complex theory. Lu challenges the application of a theory originally developed about the psychology of individuals to the psychology of groups. He also questions whether the cultural complex theory has adequately employed the well-established techniques of other disciplines to pursue its inquiry. I argue for the validity of the way in which the cultural complex theory is being developed. At the same time I do not suggest that it is a “unified field theory” intended to be the only valid approach to understanding cultural conflict or how the group psyche functions.
