In this article, we report the results of two steps in the development of the Scales of Psychological Capacities, a new approach to assessing changes in personality structure. We be-gin by summarizing a previously reported description of the conceptual basis for the measure and of a successful content validity study. Then, we present new, positive data on inter-rater reliability and on concurrent validity of the scales. Results suggest that researchers who use the measure may have some confidence that it produces a relatively characteristic description of clinically significant patient attributes.
