This issue of the Journal, the first of 2015, marks the 25th anniversary of Psychoanalytic Dialogues. The Journal was first published in January 1991, in the early days of relational psychoanalysis. Our founding editor, Stephen Mitchell, gathered a small group of associates to launch a new journal devoted to developing the relational perspective while sponsoring high-level debates among psychoanalysts of differing perspectives. This included publishing articles with commentaries and responses—a format that is now widely used throughout analytic publishing. The Journal grew quickly, with hundreds of authors and more than 70 associate and assistant editors and peer reviewers contributing their time, energy, and scholarship publishing six issues a year, with the highest current impact factor rating among all psychoanalytic journals worldwide. We thank them all for their enormous contributions to the Journal. We are especially grateful to our readers—practicing analysts and scholars from all over the world who have inspired and been inspired by the relational turn in psychoanalysis. We look forward to continuing to explore new pathways to thinking about psychoanalysis and to creative ways of presenting psychoanalytic ideas.
We invite all of our readers, writers, and editors to celebrate with us. In this 25th-anniversary year, we hope to publish a series of reflections on relational psychoanalysis today. Watch for them in upcoming issues.
Best wishes for a very good and healthy 2015.
