This paper is an attempt to describe the work of a relational analyst entering the terrain of psychosis and with it the difficulty of negotiating an interminable impasse. The impasse turns out to be linked to that which is dissociated in the analyst. Thus the way through the impasse, even in psychosis, depends on an intersubjective shift initiated by the recognition of the analyst’s own dissociation.
