The current Israeli government is the most openly right-wing government since the establishment of the State of Israel. Unlike the previous governments, this one makes no effort to appear committed to the values of democracy and human rights. Unlike the previous governments that merely strove to define the state as the state of all Jews, this one is taking concrete steps to ensure that the state indeed becomes a Jewish state in all Its institutions.
Besides the fact that it openly refuses to recognize the rights of non-Jews as equal citizens, Israel in its current form also makes a distinction within the Jewish public between people who maintain a religious lifestyle and those who are secular. The public discourse now openly dismisses invocations of socioeconomic status, power and race; the public does not feel guilt or uneasiness about participating in an explicitly violent and racist discourse. If a human society Is defined according to its attitude toward others, and if protecting those who are different and preventing their deaths are what define the degree of humanity of a given society, the Israeli society is now very far from being able to fit that definition.
Within this grim reality, the harm to national minority populations and populations disadvantaged on the basis of gender, namely women, LGBTs and particularly transgender people has become grave. This reality gives a boost to the criminal organizations, for example, the number of people murdered since the beginning of this year has reached 78, of whom 60 are Palestinians (with an Israeli ID card). This is by all accounts the highest number we have seen in a period of 4 months at any time in history. There is also an increase in cases of gender-based violence: since the beginning of the year, 11 women, 5 of them Palestinian, have been murdered in Israel due to domestic violence.
All along, the government enacts laws that make It easier for those who are suspected of acts of violence to evade legal sanctions
