In responding to the moving discussions by Mary Kim Brewster and Elizabeth Corpt, the author considers the “unthought mixt subject” and for whom it is a danger. Brewster’s notion of the “unthought mixt subject” emphasizes how mixed-race subjectivity is often overlooked within the dynamics of the interracial primal scene and in the broader context of society, including psychoanalysis. Corpt raises questions about how the psychic dilemmas of mixing, with their associated tensions and anxieties, may contribute to how analytic training makes itself untenable. The author further examines how, beyond the culture of psychoanalytic institutes, the practical aspects of training perpetuate this exclusivity. The discussion highlights how the inclination toward sameness, akin to the avoidance of difference, stifles critical thinking and provides only an illusion of comfort.
