Orna Guralnik and Christine Harb met on the docuseries Couples Therapy in 2022. During filming, they respectively realized that while they both live in New York, Orna, the program’s couple’s therapist, is Israeli, and Christine, who participated in the series with her partner, is Palestinian. They kept in touch after the show ended, and since October 7th, 2023, they have spent more than 30 hours, on video calls and in person, discussing their views and applying a psychoanalytic couple’s therapy framework to engage with difficult subjects without the conversation breaking down. The editors present their dialogue believing it a significant contribution to the psychoanalytic literature on trauma and reconciliation. The conversation between Guralnik and Harb was originally published in The Guardian and is presented in Psychoanalytic Dialogues with a new introduction by the authors and an accompanying introductory essay by Jessica Benjamin.
