Revisiting Virginia Goldner’s brilliant, lyrical article “Romantic Bonds, Binds and Ruptures,” this author advocates for the integration of a somatic approach in working with couples on the brink. In addition, the impact of the romantic life of the couples therapist on the therapist’s embodied presence and subjectivity is brought into question; in particular, the author speculates that the couples therapist’s own romantic wounds may serve either as an impediment or alternatively as a source of heightened emotional attunement in couples therapy.
