Marks-Tarlow presents a compelling argument against reductive reasoning, while encouraging an interconnected non-linear perspective aligned with Einstein’s entanglement theory, the root of chaos, and complexity theories. Operating from the viewpoint that the universe has an underlying fractal organization, Marks-Tarlow has stated, “Fractal consciousness is the essential activity at the core of clinical intuition.” In my response, I use Marks-Tarlow’s conceptualization as a foundational point of departure, discussing the applicability of KarenBarad’s theory of diffraction in quantum theory toward deepening an understanding of the mechanics of what happens within the fractal seams arising in the psychoanalytic process, creating points of emergence for previously unformulated psychic material to enter consciousness.
