This reply to the commentaries elaborates analysts’ anxieties about their own erotic embodiment as well as their inhibitions in integrating the maternal and the erotic. These issues are explored as they relate to the intricate connections between dependency and sexuality. The author emphasizes that the inter-implication between these domains is at its most clinically challenging with patients who most need a psychoanalysis to address these very links.
