In her thoughtful and beautifully written paper, Tara Chivukula takes on a hitherto somewhat unexplored aspect of psychoanalytic theorizing, accents and their role in social stratification as well as their importance in shaping the transferential matrix. In my discussion I follow up on some of these themes. Immigration, race, class and economic status feature in my contemplations on these matters from a theoretical as well as from a personal perspective. While I make a case for migration and the polyglot nature of culture, I also acknowledge the heartache involved in forever being on the move, leaving friends, family and the landscapes of home behind.
