This discussion engages personally with Bernadine Han’s experiential and visceral portrayal of being the recipient of a cascading series of racialized microaggressions. The discussion highlights key aspects of the author’s complex theoretical analysis of such experiences and their relation to a dominant, unacknowledged, ideology of whiteness and white supremacy. The discussion includes examples of similar events, and it further explores the connection between “micro” and “macro” aggressions. The discussant uses a socio-historical perspective to consider how individuals and groups defined as “other” are punished for daring to become subjects in their own right.
