In this discussion, I explore how Seidel’s paper enacts the mobility it describes. I look at what she calls, “going-on-becoming” which develops out of going-on being. I consider Winnicott’s concept of going-on-being and how it focuses on the present moment and I ask how the social environment influences the development of going-on-being. I look closely at Seidel’s work with Arthur, how stuck the treatment felt, how it began to move, and what Arthur may have been communicating to Seidel from his “deadened” state. I also ask about the transference–countertransference relationship between Arthur and Seidel, and about Seidel’s suggestion that psychoanalysis is already queer.
