This discussion explores the clinical usefulness of the mother infant relationship as a metaphor for psychological birth using the philosophical term of intercorporeality to describe a primal connection. Civitarese suggests the clinical use of the term we-ness to represent intercorporeality. My paper discusses our similar interests of working at a primal level and some differences in our conception of the processes. I elaborate the term corporeality to include intra and intercorporeality. I wonder about the clinical implications when working with patients who suffer disruptions in relationships, seemingly arising from a psychic failure to be born. I also wonder about the role aggression as expressed or not in intercorporeality and how the concept of we-ness does or does not include it.
