In this paper, the author finds that the deeply insightful discussions by Caravedo, Huang, and Miller lead her to push further on the idea that love “is the force behind our unending evolution.” Referencing Bion’s Learning from Experience, she explores how the “point of contact” between mother and infant, patient and analyst, viewer and painter can be a zone of formative unconscious communication, crucial to understanding and shaping who we are and how we become. The author also explores how the idea that the unconscious is fundamentally relational can help us understand how psychoanalysis can be such a powerful vector for change, and how the creativity inherent in intimacy can help us not only access unconscious material, but also free it, and create it.
